Santorini’s History

Santorini’s history is something of a natural wonder. The Minoan eruption in 1613 BC is hailed as one of the largest volcanic events the world has seen, forming the island’s infamous Caldera as a result of Thera’s powerful activity.

Nowadays, tourists from all over the world flock to the Cyclades to catch a glimpse of the breath-taking views found on this volcanic island. The homes have since become a spectacle themselves, cultivating a following of their own with their traditional cave-style architecture and vibrant blue domes.

There’s no doubt that Santorini’s backdrop is one of the most unique in the world. Surrounded by the crystal blue Mediterranean Sea, nearby islands that sit on the horizon and long summer days that end with deep, colorful sunsets – it’s almost impossible to not fall in love with her beauty.

The island was previously home to many notable civilizations, with the oldest being Late Neolithic (4000 BC or more). As centuries passed and ancient relics were discovered, it’s thought that Egypt, Cyprus, Syria and many other countries had once been in contact with the island, only adding to the island’s historic charm.

These periods have since gone, but the energy that Santorini still holds is a celebration of the many stories and lifetimes she has witnessed.

We believe that Santorini is a time-capsule, offering us a glimpse into a period that has since been forgotten. Whether you’re relaxing on the beach made up entirely of volcanic sand, visiting century-old Vineyards, or walking through one of the world’s oldest archaeological sites, you will find yourself taking in the energy of the layers of the island’s history.
